new tires: 313 dollars
new rear brakes and a new water pump: 82 dollars
a gallon of gas: 2.39

driving a car you adore: priceless.

I can't believe I just succumbed to the master card commercial!! but I just did.

I'm rather upset with myself. I haven't eaten meat in a long time. I can't remember whether tomorrow makes it two or three weeks. There were a couple of times when I blatantly ate meat and knew it. I had a half a chicken nugget when my will power wouldn't kick in. I ate one chicken wing at Red Robin. Monday I ate a burrito with meat at a hole in the wall place where there weren't vegetarian options and I don't know if I could've communicated it well enough. And a burrito tastes good with beef in it.

But last night. LAST NIGHT was Latin food night in the cafeteria and I just took a tamale. And I ate it. It wasn't good at all- it was terribly dry- but i ate it anyway. And not until I got back to the house did I realize "you stupid! that had meat and you didn't even think about it!" I had been so conscious of what I was putting my mouth the last few weeks, and then I just let a gross tamale get me down. Bah!

So my brother enlisted in the Air National Guard. He has three weeks of basic training in Texas, and then five MONTHS of more training. You know what this means? My next niece or nephew is going to be born in Texas. Aye yi yi. Color me pissed. Rinda even had a dream that she had twin boys.. which could be a possibility because she comes from a family of twins.

Anyway, the weekend was great. My niece stills says "holla!" and "bling" (she got more bling for her birthday). She actually says a ton of things now, she's a little talker. She's funny cause she asks about things and gets an incredibly puzzled look on her face and asks her question. Like "Meghan choo choo train?" or "Meghan's?" she's very possessive about things right now, she always needs to know what belongs to who. She's so smart, my little Hannah. She knows the difference between her dad's Land Cruiser and her mom's Land Cruiser. They are look exactly the same except for their color. We pulled into the parking lot where my brother works and she spotted it among all the other cars: "Daddy Cruiser!"

While I was there it snowed a little bit (!!). Wednesday I rode the train back to Portland and it was rather uneventful except for the funny Indian guy who, when i asked if my seat was upstairs, answered in his cute accent "yes, the stairway to heaven." We pulled into Portland and spring had sprung while I was gone! The waterfront was completely green, people were out on the river, running or walking on the esplanade. After leaving a place where it snowed it was a little shocking to have to take off my sweatshirt cause it was so warm outside.

"When the others came in to eat they found her kneading a large lump of dough at the kitchen table. They wondered at the fierceness of her thumping, but made no comment. Ag's first loaf, which later rose magnificently in the oven, was filled with the stupidity of mankind, the futility of war, the helplessness of one individual such as herself to enable the world to come to its senses"
