Last night Natalie, Matt, Stephanie and I all went to a free lecture downtown given by Eric Schlosser, the author of "Fast Food Nation". If you haven't read this book it needs to be at the top of your "to-read" list. He focused on obesity and the food industries affect on children in our country. I knew the statistics and stories because of reading the book, but it was good to hear him talk about it all, and to get more ideas about what we can do. Especially since I'll be a public school teacher, it was nice to know that I matter in the decisions kids make.

To commemorate- we ate at Burgerville beforehand. Ha. And then went back afterwards so a couple of us could get treats. I just found that ironic. The night included Matt and Natalie dancing in the Burgerville dining room. Matt said to the guy who was mopping "sorry, we're just dancing" and the guy responded "it's alright. I wish I could be dancing". Ha! So we said "join us!" but he didn't. He must've been intent on getting those floors clean. Or intent on getting a paycheck. I'm betting on the latter.

I swear to you- whenever I hang out with this group of people I feel alive.

So here is the mix I made for Lizy's graduation.

Goodbye by Plankeye obvious choice

Twenty-four by Switchfoot it just talks about growing up and changing

This Town Will Eat You by twothirtyeight "someday when things are slow again we'll burn this city down". About a friend who you haven't seen, and "If i spot you across a dirty diner I'll be waving".

The Payoff by The Carolines Perfect end of college song. "Last four years lips gettin wet with the Nalgene". It talks about how you better do something with your life or you'll have received the payoff.

Open Book by Cake Just like Lizy-- "you think she's an open book but you don't know which page to turn to, do you?"

Still Fightin' It by Ben Folds- I got this cd second hand from someone early last fall and whenever we were in the car (with other friends) we would belt out this song "IT SUCKS TO GROW UP!"

With a Little Help From My Friends by the Beatles- obvious choice

A Friend I Had by Aaron Sprinkle A song four of us love and play on the guitar. "you are older now".. a song about expectations and growing up. It's a gorgeous song. Lizy says I introduced her to this song and Aaron Sprinkle's goodness.

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing by Sufjan Stevens Just a great song.

Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine Beginning of last fall we all saw Garden State, and it's just a nice song.

Proofs by Mates of State the beginning of this song just excites me. We all love Mates of State and one of the first things we found out about Lizy when she moved on campus was that she loved Mates of State-- instant connection. Many a dance party are orchestrated by the Mates.

Kings and Queens by The Carolines "we drive around this town like we were kings and queens.. "

Rockin' the Suburbs by Ben Folds Again, i got this cd last fall and we all belted out this song.

You Can't Make New Old Friends by Dolour Just about friends.

Starman by Mates of State (originally by David Bowie) A new fun song by the Mates.. I just had to add it for it's fun quality.
